Pull up a chair, grab your favorite cup of coffee (or tea—we’re equal-opportunity caffeine enthusiasts), and let’s talk about shaking up education in all the right ways. At Ampersand Learning, we believe that meaningful change doesn’t always come from massive overhauls or grand gestures. Sometimes, it starts with tiny disruptions—small, intentional shifts that create a ripple effect of innovation, equity, and deeper learning.
So, how did Ampersand Learning come to be? Well, three educators—Brandy Byers, Karin Compise, and Katie Burns—got together and decided that waiting around for someone else to fix what’s broken in education wasn’t an option. We knew the system needed to be more equitable, engaging, and real for every learner. And instead of aiming for a single, sweeping revolution, we focused on the little things that make a big difference—one lesson, one strategy, one mindset shift at a time.
And why Ampersand Learning? Because that little “&” means everything. It reminds us that learning should be about and—not either/or. Creativity and critical thinking. Content knowledge and real-world application. Rigor and joy. Every learner’s voice and meaningful change. When we embrace and, we open the door to more inclusive, impactful learning experiences.
What Drives Our Tiny Disruptions?
💡 Equity—We’re here to break down barriers, not reinforce them. Every student deserves access to the tools, resources, and support they need to succeed, no exceptions.
🔍 Deeper Learning—Because students shouldn’t just memorize facts—they should know how to think, solve problems, collaborate, and create. Real learning is messy, meaningful, and, yes, sometimes even fun.
⚡ Joyful Innovation—Because if education isn’t sparking curiosity and excitement, we’re doing it wrong. Learning should be dynamic, engaging, and connected to the real world.
And here’s the thing: change doesn’t have to be overwhelming. It starts with one teacher trying a new approach, one classroom shifting its mindset, one school choosing to do things differently. These tiny disruptions add up, and when enough of us embrace them, they create a wave of transformation.
So, if you’re ready to shake things up in your classroom, school, or district—stick around. We’ll be sharing ideas, strategies, and stories from educators who are making bold moves (one small disruption at a time).
Here’s to reimagining education—one ampersand, one tiny disruption, one joyful step forward at a time.
With passion, purpose, and just a little bit of rebellious joy,
The Ampersand Learning Team
